Gun control is wrong
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
So sayeth the 2nd amendment to the US Constitution. This right is valued and defended by many Americans. The courts repeatedly uphold that right.
So let them.
Don’t control guns at all. Let Americans buy rifles. Handguns. Assault rifles. Heck, why not bazookas and anti-aircraft guns? It’s their right!
And the NRA is completely right: guns do not kill people.
Nope. It’s the bullets that kill people.
The 2nd amendment says nothing about the right to own ammunition. It does not say that people have the right to actually shoot their guns.
We don’t want government controlling bullets, either. Certainly not a ban. (Remember how successful that was during Prohibition?)
Here’s how to reduce gun deaths without interfering at all with the 2nd amendment:
- Set up a fund – let’s call it the Freedom Fund. All money from this fund will go to support law enforcement and care for people (especially young people) who are mentally ill.
- Every bullet that is sold carries a mandatory donation to the Freedom Fund. Small calibre bullets require a $10 donation each. Bigger ones $100. Automatic rifle clips require $1,000 donations. And so on.
- Also, everyone who wants to buy a bullet & actually shoot their guns is required to be registered and serve with the National Guard. (Remember the bit about “A well regulated militia…”?) If you want to shoot your guns, you need to pass National Guard admissions tests and be trained, registered and monitored. It’s for the service of your country. God bless America!
Now, how hard was that?
Excellent, John. Well said.
Brilliant idea. Much better than my idea of requiring every gun owner to shoot himself in the foot in order to get a license.
You two are cracking me up! I love it.
